About us

We are a specialist online clinical psychology practice. Every member of our team holds a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Our approach

The Online Psychologists was founded on a simple idea: that high-quality psychological therapy should be accessible to anyone in the UK, wherever they live. Too many people face months-long NHS waiting lists or struggle to find a qualified clinical psychologist near them.

We are different from large therapy platforms because we only employ clinical psychologists, not counsellors or therapists with lower-level qualifications. This means we can work with complex, long-standing difficulties as well as more common concerns like anxiety and low mood.

Every new referral is personally triaged by our Clinical Director, Dr Rachel Whatmough, who conducts a free 15-minute consultation to understand your needs. She then matches you with the psychologist whose expertise, therapeutic style and personality are the best fit for you.

What sets clinical psychologists apart

Clinical psychologists complete a minimum of seven years of training, including a three-year doctoral programme. This training covers a wide range of therapeutic approaches, psychological assessment, research methods and work with complex presentations across NHS settings.

Clinical psychologists are regulated by the HCPC, a government body that sets standards for fitness to practise. This gives you the assurance that your therapist meets the highest professional standards.

Unlike counsellors or psychotherapists, clinical psychologists are trained to draw on multiple evidence-based therapies and adapt their approach to what works best for each individual. You are not limited to a single modality.
